Production in Portugal

The models included in the collection “Graninge’s classic original models” — Graninge Bred, Graninge Fjäll, Graninge Jokkmokk, and Graninge Hög — are manufactured in Portugal. The factory has undergone a SMETA audit, a globally recognised standard that ensures labour and environmental practices are upheld throughout production and supply chain. The factory also complies with BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), a European collaboration initiative that guarantees fair working conditions, equitable wages, and a safe work environment. The factory’s suppliers are certified according to international standards (LWG, REACH, and CADS/GOTS) to ensure high product quality and safety.

The leather used in the production of Graninge’s original models is approved by LWG (Leather Working Group), an environmental certification for tanneries. According to this, the material suppliers follow strict environmental guidelines in the tanning process and the leather is vegetable-tanned rather than chrome-tanned. Graninge’s original models are made with heel counters and toe caps from recycled materials, and the outsoles are crafted from 100% natural rubber. The wool used in the insulated models is mulesing-free and sourced from Portugal. The shoeboxes are made from recycled materials and certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) to ensure sustainable forestry.

The factory uses the PFAS free and highly water-repellent Aquastop® membrane in Graninge’s boots.

Production in Italy

The additional models in the Graninge collection are primarily manufactured in Italy. The factory is certified according to ISO 9001 — an international quality standard that ensures a systematic approach to maintaining high standards throughout the production process. This guarantees that every product meets strict requirements for craftsmanship, customer satisfaction, and durability. The factory is also certified according to ISO 14001, a globally recognised environmental standard that reflects a long-term commitment to sustainable production and reducing environmental impact.

The leather used in production complies with strict EU standards for chrome tanning and meets high demands for safety and quality. The outsoles used in Graninge’s collection are primarily sourced from Vibram®, with a strong focus on grip, performance, and durability.

The factory uses various types of PFAS free membranes in Graninge’s boots and shoes:

Grantex® water resistant membrane.
Sympatex® waterproof membrane.
Spo-Tex® waterproof membrane.
